Artist Statement

My art celebrates solitude amongst the beauty of nature's dark and quiet places. There is magic in the way the mist wraps itself around mountain peaks, in the fog that hovers over still water, in winter's unsaturated softness, and in the cool, nurturing light of the moon. As I paint I imagine witnessing such a scene, alone and far away from the noise of society. If I am painting a creature, I decide that they too are content to linger in quietude on their own until their souls feel full again. I am an introverted and highly-sensitive person; these elements of my identity heavily influence and inspire my art. Painting provides an opportunity for me to shift my focus inward and is a practice of self-expression, either following or evoking an experience of deep emotion. Typically, my paintings are kept to a smaller scale to facilitate a quiet and intimate experience for the viewer.
